hey family,

this week’s inspiring words post will change your perspective on what it means to go “pro”. You see, last week I was fortunate enough to be the inspirational keynote presenter (virtually of course) for a global company.

for those of you who haven’t hired speakers before or don’t know too much about the industry, there are usually a series of calls where the speaker should interrogate the event planner or leadership team at length to make sure they (the speaker) can create content that really drives that message home to the audience.

inspiring words

so for example, if a CEO wants his team to feel more hopeful, i create a message that inspires his team. if the ceo wants them to sell more, i add a few golden nuggets about how to face rejection in sales so they don’t lose productivity.

primarily, I speak to healthcare companies, fitness companies, insurance companies, and oddly- automotive companies.

halfway through the call, there was one question I felt must be asked.  So I took a deep breathe and said boldly,

1. What are the pros doing in your industry that you wish you or your team was doing?

1. What are the pros doing in your industry that you wish you or your team was doing?

his response got me.

he simply said, “we’re better but thats a conversation for another day, the real question is, as a pro, what are you doing in your industry that other speakers want to learn?”

he flipped the question on me.

so I blurted out the honest truth, “By hiring me today, you have the opportunity to raise the bar for all of the other speakers out there.  We set the standards, we don’t follow them.”

I got the gig.  I had three days to write, perform, record, and send over my presentation.  All while traveling on a boat through the muddy waters of the Mississippi.

Pros set the standards.

Pros set the standards.  Amateurs follow them. Thats the difference.

When others in your industry ask you how you are doing something, you’re a pro.  When you do something and others adopt it, you’re the pro.

so babes, let me challenge you, where are you the pro today?
what are you doing that others are following?

and if you don’t have the answer, that’s okay.  you may still be the amateur.  we all start out as amateurs. take time to reflect on this question What are the pros doing in your industry that you wish you were doing?

and then email me back and let me know what are some other signs of going pro?

grit and grace,
Klyn
